Welcome to a fresh take on news built by researchers who were feeling frayed.

We’re frayed from 24/7 sensational headlines, biased reporting, and an endless drone of opinions that either make you want to cry out in despair or punch someone. We call it, “living in the fray.”

You know you’re in the fray when:

  • Turning on the news is like turning on a bad episode of reality TV - complete with name calling, social media “clap backs,” and a full camera crew to capture every minute of the drama.

  • Reading an article leaves you wondering if you've been given the full story or wondering if the tone was slanted and the facts were cherry-picked to support a specific agenda.

  • Talking about political issues with anyone who doesn't agree with you feels more like entering a verbal war-zone where the weapon of choice is personal insults and neither side seems to make any progress.

For most of us, the fray doesn't feel good. It leaves us frustrated, exhausted, and even depressed.

So, we did something about it.

We’re here to be the first thread of change.

We aim to be the go-to resource for factual and politically diverse commentary on some of the most important issues we face. We represent the independent thinkers and the politically exhausted. We believe that research and data empower us to face our most pressing challenges. That arming people with knowledge will help us to look beyond political silos and form our own opinions.

Our goal is simple: We want to get factual information into the hands of thoughtful people, so that they can shape our future.

It all starts with a thread. Follow yours and go solve tomorrow.

Our Mission:

Empower individuals to think independently. Inspire communities to speak collaboratively.

Our Priorities:

FOCUS ON WHAT MATTERS

Filter out the noise of endless sensational headlines and half-baked or unverified news stories. Focus on the most critical stories of the week that have real impacts on real lives. Check out our criteria for each news story in the “Weekly Question” section of our process page.

READ BETWEEN THE RHETORIC

Don't get spun in reporting that only highlights one side of the story. Get diverse commentary directly from experts that allows you to decide. We value independent thought over party lines. Check out our latest articles to see how we empower our readers to form their own research-backed opinions.

embrace the multi-bias

Is truly unbiased reporting possible? We, like the majority of Americans, don’t think so. Rather than attempt the impossible of being an "unbiased" source, we embrace that we live in a biased world and employ the "multi-bias".  We present the opposing opinions (or biases) side by side. And let you decide who’s “right.”

Our Vision:

We envision a world where we can disagree and still solve problems.

We are creating a community that thinks independently and wants to solve the issues that really matter. At The Thread, we believe that if we can use our passion for data to create a platform that makes the boring numbers readable for you, then we have taken the first step and made a stand for the truth.

And for every individual who can form their own opinions while also acknowledging the common thread that holds us together, the world is a better place.

Are you a change agent that believes in the power of data and research? Great. Reach out to us -- we need your input.
